What is the origin of the pole vault?

The jump with a cane and was in many ancient cultures, the idea was, do not jump as high as possible, but go as far as possible. There are references in the pole vault taiteanos games that were held in Ireland between 1829 and 554 BC

gymnastic movements in Central, Gus Mutis in 1793 explained how to pole vault. These poles were made of wood, they took very short pulse racing and jumping height somewhat higher than 2 meters. In the British Rural Sports, in 1855, and were recommended bamboo poles.

In 1874, the Ulverston Cricket Club, it revolutionized the jump. Poles were used ash and walnut with a tripod at the base. The jumper planted the tripod and began to climb the pole, style banned in the late nineteenth century, replacing the tripod by a barb wire. In 1922 he designed the first boxes.

then the steel poles are built to go in 1960 the fiberglass. The global dominance of the field, went to the Olympic Games in Munich in the U.S., where German Norwing is the only athlete able to break this hegemony. Later the Russian school came to dominate the field.

The lightness of fiberglass allowed to double after the raid, grabbing higher and vertical propulsion of the diver when crossing the bar.

pole type used will depend on the technical level of the diver, weight and speed with which it reaches the courts. The higher the speed, weight and technical level will be used more hard and long poles.
